Letter from the Double U Ranch
October 9, 2011
Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
This has been a very tough year. We have seen the worst drought in our life time. This includes no grass for over a year, no water in the ponds, and wild fires. Our family was not directly impacted by the wild fires other than being inconvenienced by the evacuations. Many folks, especially in the Bastrop area, lost everything. Our thoughts and prayers go out to all the families that lost their homes.
I have seen many ranches and known many people that sold their herds this year. It is a no win situation, financially, whether they sold out or not. We decided to keep our core herd. With this decision and no grass, we have been buying and feeding hay for over a year. Getting hay was very difficult since we had been promised hay for months by several people. As usual, we were very lucky and blessed to get hay shipped in from Mississippi by a local business. Thanks Roland!!!
To our customers, partners, family, and friends; thanks for all your support. To all those impacted by the drought and wild fires, we hope and pray for rain, a return to normalcy, and the very best for 2012.
Sincerely,
B. & P. Walker

Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
My wife and I attended the Stockman's Kind Sale at the Mound Creek Ranch on Saturday, March 19, 2011.
We enjoyed everything about the sale including the people, conversation, hospitality, and much more. This sale included birthday wishes for Eddie Blazek (March 1), Tracy Holbert (March 19), and Clyde Rogers (who turned 80), just to name a few. The weather was beautiful and the sale had a very good turn out with standing room only.
We did purchase the bull, MC Revelation 206W9 as we continue to improve our herd and genetics. So far, I am very pleased with him and his disposition. He walked on to the trailer, rode for over 2 hours, stepped off the trailer, and still seemed to be very calm and relaxed.
I would like to say thanks to Eddie Blazek, the Mound Creek Ranch team, and all their partners for a job well done. Special thanks to Michael McCart, Kenneth Marlatt, and Cindy Holbert for their help and patience. They were all very cordial and professional. It was well worth our time and we plan to be back again next year.
Sincerely,
B. & P. Walker

Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
My wife and I attended the Texas Brangus Breeders Association (TBBA) Annual Meeting and "Blazing a New Trail" Sale at the Tenroc Ranch in Salado, Texas, 2/18 - 2/19/11. We enjoyed everything about The TBBA Sale including the people, conversation, hospitality, food, music, and seminars. Luck was on our side and we had great weather for the sale.
The consignors and buyers included a large range of participants including some of the largest Brangus operations. For the folks that could not make it, they missed a great opportunity to get some very good Brangus females at reasonable prices. I would like to say thanks to Bob North, the Tenroc Ranch team, Gary Bruns, Steve Densmore, the TBBA, and all their partners.
Sincerely,
B. & P. Walker

Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
This has been a difficult year in more ways than one. Most of all, I am sad to say I lost my father this year. He checked in to Tomball Hospital on November 1st, was diagnosed with Leukemia, and was transferred to M. D. Anderson, all in the same day. Just over a month later, he passed away on Sunday, December 5, 2010, at the age of 79.
September 3, 2010, Mom and Dad were married 55 years. We were privileged to have him in our lives and he had a significant impact on us all. We will miss him dearly.
Sincerely,
B. & P. Walker
These are some of the very happy times we shared with him, and he shared with us.

Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
I brought my wife and father to The Cowman’s Kind Sale at the Mound Creek Ranch on Saturday, October 31, 2009. We enjoyed everything about The Cowman’s Kind Sale including the people, conversation, hospitality, food, and much more. It was a special treat to sing Happy Birthday to Mr. O.V. Christensen for his 88th birthday. It is the little things like this that makes this event feel more like a family activity. In addition, I understand that the President of the International Brangus Breeders Association (IBBA) was present along with several IBBA board members.
We did purchase the bull, MB New Direction 535U16. So far, I am very pleased with him and his disposition. He walked on to the trailer, rode for over 2 hours, stepped off the trailer, and still seemed to be very calm and relaxed. For the past two days, he has settled right in with the herd without any problems at all.
I would like to say thanks to Eddie Blazek, the Mound Creek Ranch team, and all their partners (including Ken Christensen) for a job well done. It was well worth our time and we plan to be back again next year.
Sincerely,
B. & P. Walker

Dear Customers, Partners, Family, and Friends:
My wife and I attended the 55th Annual Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course (BCSC) August 3-5, 2009. Over 1400 beef producers were in attendance, along with 100-plus agri-related businesses and trade show exhibitors. “Today, the highly respected TAMU Beef Cattle Short Course is nationally and internationally recognized as the largest attended beef cattle educational program of its type in the world.”
Just a few of the classes we attended included: Forage Management Workshop, Ranching for the Future, Producing Quality Commercial Calves, Cattle Marketing Symposium, Issues Affecting Landowners, and Beef Carcass Value Determination Workshop. We knew some of the information that was covered; however, we still learned a lot. In fact, there were more classes that we wanted to attend than we had time to include in our schedule. For additional information, go to the following link. Texas A&M Beef Cattle Short Course:

I would like to say thanks to Dr. Jason Cleere and his team, the guest speakers, the exhibitors, and all the sponsors for a job well done. It was well worth our time and we plan to be back again next year.
